Why Are Smoke Alarms Important?

Smoke alarms and smoke detectors are the first defence against potential house fires. They are not only critical to the overall safety of your home and family, but they are the simplest and the cheapest prevention tools that save lives and protect properties. Hence, maintaining your smoke detectors in the best condition is important for them to work properly. If your current smoke alarm is more than 10 years old, or if your property does not have smoke detectors at all – it is time to invest in one already.

Smoke detector installation is no easy job! These days, household fires are much more common than you might think and the kind of materials and fabrics used in modern houses can exacerbate them. Fortunately, at Varley Electric, our Smoke Alarm & Detector professionals specialise in fire alarm safety system installations, training, equipment, service and maintenance – we are here to keep your family protected from Fire.

Why You Need a Professional to Install Your Smoke Alarm?

According to the New Smoke Alarm Legislation, introduced on 1 January, 2017, all smoke alarms must comply with the Australian Standard 3786–2014. All existing private homes, townhouses and units will require photoelectric interconnected smoke alarms. These must be either a hardwired (e.g. 240v) smoke alarm or a non-removable 10 year battery powered type alarm. For both interconnected and hard-wired detection systems, you have to consult with a qualified and licensed electrician for installing it. And since electricity is involved, it is always a safe bet to hire a professional to do the job for you.
